Get ready for the Mining Emergency Response Competition 2020!

 In Fire & Emergency

Before we get to Christmas, a well-deserved break and the New Year, there’s one more industry event to look forward to in Perth – The Mining Emergency Response Competition (MERC).

This is an annual Perth event that showcases and provides world-class emergency rescue and skill building exercises for volunteer mines rescue teams.

It’s a great opportunity for families and the general public to see exactly what emergency response crews do to protect and save lives every day.

What does MERC involve?

Over the course of two days, teams will participate in a series of very realistic scenarios and cover all emergency response disciplines.

On site, on the road and/or in our day-to-day lives, emergencies and rescues occur, such as:

  • Road crash rescue operations
  • Hazardous material response and evacuations
  • Vertical and confined space rescues
  • Firefighting and first aid situations

In all these scenarios, generalised emergency team readiness is crucial.

Inspectors from the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety will be present on the day to answer any of your questions relating to emergency management.

MERC is a great day out and a great opportunity to hone in and refresh your skills, whether you’re on site as a FIFO worker, an industrial warehouse worker, tradesperson or just want to be prepared in an emergency situation.

Let’s find out what you need to know on the day.
