From the 28th-30th November 2025, the Mining Emergency Response Competition (MERC) returned to Langley Park for its 15th year, and once again delivered a weekend filled with skill, teamwork, and community spirit. With WA’s top mining emergency response teams coming together to compete across a range of realistic scenarios, MERC continues to showcase the incredible capability and dedication of our industry.

This year, the energy was high, the weather was hot, and the competition was fierce – exactly what we’ve come to expect from one of WA’s most iconic industry events.

A Weekend of Exceptional Skill and Teamwork

Across three full days, teams demonstrated their emergency response expertise in firefighting, first aid, vehicle extrication, rope rescue, confined space challenges, and more. MERC has always been about more than competition – it highlights the genuine preparedness and professionalism of WA’s mining emergency teams, and 2025 was no exception.

SETS was proud to be part of the event once again. This year we supported the PT Putra Perkasa Abadi Team and the PLS SIRENS, who utilised SETS rescue equipment throughout the competition. Their dedication, skill, and positive team spirit were a highlight of the weekend.

SETS owner, Kevin Broadbent, has also played a significant role in the Mining Emergency Response Competitions over the years, and this year took on the role of Chief Adjudicator. We’re very proud of his commitment to the industry, and dedication to ensuring WA’s emergency response teams are maintaining the highest standard of skills and knowledge that this industry requires.

Big Boss Dunk | Big Fun, Big Fundraising

The heat certainly kept everyone on their toes, but one of the standout attractions was the Big Boss Dunk, proudly hosted by SETS alongside Paull & Warner Resources (PWR).

Nominees braved the dunk tank in the name of charity, and the results spoke for themselves. The Big Boss Dunk raised over $20,000 alone, making a significant contribution toward MERC’s overall fundraising goal of $150,000 for the weekend.

These funds help support important WA charities, continuing MERC’s long-standing commitment to giving back to the community. Thank you to all those who donated over the weekend and made the Big Boss Dunk a fundraising success.

A Special 15-Year Milestone

This year marked the 15th anniversary of MERC – a testament to the strength and collaboration within WA’s mining and emergency response community. The event continues to grow, evolve, and inspire, drawing in new talent and showcasing the next generation of emergency responders. As always, SETS Enterprises was thrilled to contribute to another successful year and join hundreds of industry professionals, families, and spectators in celebrating this milestone.
